This is the spanking scene as depticted in the novel by Rumer Godden. I found the german version of that quite rare book and took the liberty to retranslated it to English. I apologize, if I made mistakes.

Now, here is the scene:
„I said you shall eat it “ Rob repeated. He took a spoon, loaded it with noodles and put it to Pias mouth. Pia pressed her lips tightly together and breathed through her nose.. „Eat that!“ With the other hand he gave her a stinging smack on the back of her head. Because of that, she so heavily bounced against the spoon, that she opened her mouth. The spoon went in. When Rob withdrew it empty, he breathed heavily. „Now swallow it“
Pia looked at him with her little black eyes and spat out the tagliatelle. Like in everything she did, she was also straightforward and direct in her spitting, and the noodles landed on the tablecloth creating a patch of tomato juice and gravy. Caddie let out a little fearful cry, and Rob gave in to his rage.
He pulled Pia from the chair and the next moment she was lying across his knees. He pulled back her skirt, so the small bottom became visible in panties of snow white lace.“ You asked for it. Now you shall have it!“ he said and gave her a sound spanking in front of everybody’s eyes.
Hugh and Caddie were shocked so much, they could not speak, Fanny went pale even to her lips and only Giulietta watched cheerfully, as if this would be an absolutely commonplace procedure. Finally the clapping of the spanks stopped and Rob raised Pia from his mighty knees.
„Well – are you going to eat it now?“ But Pia, whose face was again distorted in a way that made her look like an ugly monkey, had rushed to the stairs. On the third step she stopped and poured a flood of swearings over Rob. Since she cursed in Italian, the others could not understand her, but they heard the startled gasp that Giulietta made.
„Vigliacco, cattivo, ti odio.“
„No! No! Santo Cielo!“ Giulietta shouted and run to Pia to cover her mouth with her hand, but Pia shook her off.
„Mostro, non te posso vedere“ Here face had blushed in a strange way, almost as if the spankings would have hit her that place; her cambric blouse was disarranged, her hair looked wild, but she had not shed one tear. „Cattivo, vigliacco!“ Then she turned to Fanny: „Anche te, strega!“
Please not that the the part of the scene that follows in the movie, where debbie inspects the well spanked bottom of Donna (offscreen of course) does not take place in the book. It was an invention of screenwriter (and dirctor) Delmer Daves.
