Tevye is a dairyman in the Russian Ukraine early in the 20th century. He lives in a cabin outside Boyberik with his wife Goldie, his widowed daughter Tseytl, her two children, and his younger daughter, the unmarried Khave. Khave is being courted by Fedya, a Christian, the son of a local government official. Tevye warns Khave against romance and marriage outside her faith, but Fedya is persuasive too. What will Khave decide, how will Tevye react, and when the Tsar initiates a pogrom, will Tevye's friends come to his defense? Can the stubborn Tevye reconcile his heart and tradition?

The scene in question goes like this:   Tevyes Farm. Schloymele and Perele  sit together on the swing. Because Perele is holding a cat on her lap, which her brother rejects cause he is superstitious, the two begin fighting. The boy beats the girl who runs to Tseytl, who’s working alongside Tevvje. Tseytl spanks both their behinds and sends the kids back into the house.

The relevant scene:  Arriving just in time to see Man Ho admiring Mi Soon's beauty while she is being interviewed by a tv station, Se Ri starts to argue loudly with Man Ho.Completely focused on venting her anger, Se Ri doesn't notice Man Ho's attempt to point out the black marker drawings all over her face. Finally realizing something is amiss after Man Ho runs away in shame for standing beside her, Se Ri gasps in horror once Mi Soon takes pity on her and hands her a mirror. Furious once she figures out that Jin Hwa must be the one that drew on her face, Se Ri spanks Jin Hwa in anger. Seris mother is shocked as she comes out of her room to find her two granddaughters in tears.

Les Malheurs de Sophie is a French film by Christophe Honoré, released 20 April 2016 in France1 and freely adapted from two novels by the Comtesse de Ségie: Les Malheurs de Sophie on the one hand, and her sequel Les Petites Filles modèles.

Sophie de Réan is a playful little girl, alive and curious about life. Surrounded by her cousin Paul and her little comrades, Camille and Madeleine de Fleurville, she made the four hundred blows in the family domain, chaining stupidity to stupidity. Parents to join America, Sophie is forced to leave her friends. Alas, a drama will change the destiny of Sophie. Having become an orphan, the little girl is picked up by her mother-in-law, the horrible Madame Fichini, who is going to make her life difficult.

This making-of excerpt presents us with a spanking scene, which in the movie must have taken place after Sophie almost drowned in a lake. We have reason to suspect, that the movie does not show more from the spanking than the glimpses in this excerpt.

This clip was posted on this blog before. Without Sound, in a picture quality bad enough to let it appear black and white and without identification. (Look here: http://villafiorita.blogspot.com/2011/03/unkownmovie-broadcasted-on-german.html) It took me several years during which I skimmed through hundreds of old TV programmes – but, even though all leads that I had were false, I finally found it!

It’s from 1992 miniseries “karl may”

The tumultuous life of Karl May, the legendary (and infamous) adventure writer, creator of „Winnetou“, „Old Shatterhand“ and „Kara Ben Nemsi“ as a 6 part mini-series, broadcast at german ZDF. The series shows his growing up in great poverty, being blind until the age of 15 and the many backlashes he has to take until he can publish his first novel. The series was produced in celebration of May’s 150th birthday. As a grown up May is played by Henry Hübchen.

In this sequence teenage Karl runs away at night, after saying a final goodbye to his little sister. When Karl is gone the following morning, Karls father, a Saxonian weaver, questions the sister. She refuses to tell on Karl so her father turns her over his knee and spanks her soundly with unspairing hand (does not seem faked either)
