Jean Delannoys 1988 TV film about life of young saint Bernadette of Lourdes follows the same story line as the hollywood classic “The Song Of Bernadette” yet this one contains an element that comes directly from the biographical books on the subject: Spanking
Bernadette
confides to her younger sister about the beautiful Lady in white with the
Rosary. Toinette scoffs at first, but seeing the serious look on her older
sister's face, promises not to talk about it. Yet they hardly enter the doorway
of the damp home at Le Cachot when Toinette begins to spew forth the tale of
Bernadette's story to their mother. Tired, worn out and weary, Louise spanks
both girls. But the younger one gets the harder dose.
