Losing an important account to a fellow worker, upset by everything, a father accidentally gives his young daughter a spank too hard, so that she falls and fractures a finger as result.
While taking the child to the hospital along with wife Loretta to get the finger looked at, the guy imagines the ramifications when it comes out that he "assaulted" his child. Jail time, loss of respect, embarrassment, etc.
When the doctor asks the young girl what happened? She replies that she fell. This leads to a self-introspection upon the father as to the values of life and what is important.
